Africa is undergoing a remarkable demographic transformation that will significantly impact its economic, social and political landscape in the coming years.
In the year 2050, Nigeria is projected to reach a population of 400 million, surpassing the United States to become the world's third most populous country.
The world average median age is 30.1 years; meanwhile, in Africa, it is 19. This means that half the population is younger than 19 years old. This is 12 years younger than any other continent and less than half the median age in Europe.
By 2040, Africa will be home to the world’s largest workforce, surpassing countries like China and India.
The United Nations forecasts indicate that by 2050, Africa's population will nearly hit 2.5 billion. This suggests that over a quarter (more than 25 percent) of the global population will be African.
